Hitchsters - NYC based cab sharing

By Dan | April 3, 2007

Hitchers Hitchsters is a newly launched taxi sharing service based out of New York City. The website is a software designed to connect business travelers on the same flights and in the same city for cab sharing, saving travelers money and helping the environment.

According to the site, you enter your desired pickup time and location, and their database matches you with fellow travelers, at which point you receive their contact info via text message or email.

Currently, the site only operates in New York City, but they announced that they plan to open to Boston and Brooklyn soon. The company is a similar concept to  our post on PairUp, a social meetup system for business travelers.

I would categorize this business along the lines of the ‘micro-sharing’ trend that startups are moving towards. Concepts such as hourly work space rental, cab sharing, and furniture rental are all short term solutions to the more mobile business people of today. As the web continues to play a larger role in companies, storefronts and one-location operations will no longer become a standard, and companies will continue to cater to the on-the-go entrepreneur.

While meandering the web recently, I stumbled across your blog in its mention of Hitchsters.com. First off — we appreciate the mention, because we value people’s opinions, and also, cuz we love free advertising :P Really, the one way we can succeed is if enough people know about us — if EVERY person traveling to/from the airport put their information on Hitchsters, the number of matches would skyrocket … so please, help us get the word out! :)

We think Hitchsters.com is a great idea and has great potential to be a tremendous success — not only in NYC, but in other cities as well. This is quite the novel venture for us, and so we would not presume to know all the answers — if you have any comments / suggestions that you think would make our site and service more attractive and better suited to the needs of travelers, please do not hesitate to let us know. We are always looking to improve, and hope that you can help us get the word out to the people we need to make Hitchsters.com a part of everyone traveling adventures!

    All the best,
    Jason Lin
    VP of Strategy for Hitchsters.com
