Starting Up 2.0
By Jason | April 16, 2007
ConversionRater.com has a presentation that was given at Web 2.0 Expo titled, “Starting Up 2.0: Strategies for Pitching, Financing and Growing Your Web 2.0 Startup” with Jeff Clavier of SoftTechVC and Rob Hayes of First Round Capital.
The points really are very simple:
- The Idea
- The Team
- The Company
- The First Money
- The Pitch
- The VC Process
- The Funding Process
- The End of the Beginning
- The Growth
- The Exit
This list is geared more towards what a venture capitalist is looking for in a company before they get a round of investing. They want to see an idea and a target market. They like experienced entrepreneurs. The company must be built with a good team. There is also a nice section regarding the funding process.
The list goes on and on. Think of it this way though. You have $1 million dollars. What would you be looking for in a company to invest in? A young entrepreneur who has a great, initial idea? Or a seasoned professional who has a good idea that has been pounded out for the last three months?
A VC is going to be looking for the same things that you would. The fact of the matter is most startups are founded with very little to no investment. The thing is, you don’t hear about those companies until they get bought out..
