Peasy.com – Parking Made Easy

By Adam | April 17, 2007

Despite major advances in science and technology mankind is still plagued with a fundamental problem – finding parking spaces. Ask anyone that has had the (dis)pleasure of working in a city center and you’ll quickly hear how much of a challenge it is to drive around searching for that ever illusive last parking space.

Peasy.com, a UK based internet startup, is hoping to end this struggle. Armed with an eBay’esque model Peasy takes “sellers” – or people who have available parking spaces near train stations, town centers, and sporting events – and connects them with “buyers”, people in need of a place to park. To ensure a sustainable business model, Peasy takes a 12% commission rake for each exchange.

The simplicity of this approach provides distinct value in two ways:

  1. People with valuable, unused parking real estate are given a pain free way to exploit their space for profit.
  2. The unfortunate bunch of chaps driving around endlessly in search of available parking spaces are provided a cost effective, reliable place to store their car.

Easy. Effective. Valuable. Just what an internet service should be.

While the company is still focused on the UK, the owners acknowledge the limited market potential of this region in the long run. Future growth strategies involve partnerships abroad, so keep your eye out for Peasy services in your city.

Outside the Valley Score

Location: UK = 3
Founders: Second Time Entrepreneurs = 1
Technology: 1.5
Funding: Bootstrapped/Angel = 2

Total Score – 7.5 Across the Atlantic and a definitive business model – two tell tale signs of a non-valley internet startup.

Who is the intended market for this service?

Is it the fellow looking for last minute parking, or is it a means to arrange for a spot on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis?

Will you be towing cars that are parked in spaces that do not have a contract with the owner, or will that be up to the owner?

    Interesting idea.

Hi there, thanks for your interest in the idea. I’m actually one of the people behind Peasy.com.

In answer to your questions the intended market is both daily and long term rentals. However, long term rentals are the main market at this moment in time, and people who book daily parking tend to do so at least one week in advance.

With regards to people illegally parking in spaces this hasn’t proved to be a problem. On the site we don’t diplay the exact address (e.g house number) of parking spaces. It’s only after booking the space that you recieve the exact address.
