Nerds Need To Get On A Plane
By Rob | April 27, 2007
Howard Lindzon, founder of the excellent stock-meets-pop-culture web show WallStrip, recently responded to Charlie O’Donnell’s top ten reasons web 2.0 sucks with his own post claiming that Web2.0 doesn’t suck - just Silicon Valley.
That means you read it once a day to stay up to date on what the nerds are saying - maybe 10 minutes - and than go do some real marketing and selling and branding and tune that group out. That means dealiong with PEOPLE and PEOPLE outside of Northern California and L.A. For the most part, just like stock message boards, the nerds are complete idiots.
Here at Outside The Valley, we think there are advantages to living in the “normal” world and designing things. One of those advantages is the loss of the “valley myopia” that focuses on building stuff that is technologically cool but useless for anything practical. That is why Howard’s comment (which is the title of this post) is often true.
