GetFriday.com - The Online Assistant

By Adam | May 2, 2007

Time can be a paradox for startups. It is the one resource that entrepreneurs cannot get enough of and it is also one of the few resources that entrepreneurs cannot buy or create. Aside from pulling 18 hour days and consuming mass quantities of caffeine – there aren’t a whole lot of solutions to this problem. It’s not like you can magically add hours to the day….right?

Well, according to GetFriday.com you can. Based in India, the outsourcing junction for Western businesses, this virtual service allows you to delegate the annoying, non-critical, time consuming tasks that eat away the valuable hours of your day. Mundane things like data entry, basic research, spreadsheet development, and email follow-ups can be performed by a GetFriday virtual assistant for around $15/hour – freeing you to work on more critical things.

From their website:

Your time is valuable. With GetFriday, you know your work is in reliable hands. Manage your life more efficiently by letting your own virtual assistant carry out your routine and mundane tasks. GetFriday can undertake any task, business or personal, that does not require our physical presence. Just tell your virtual assistant and consider it done.

While we don’t have enough information to give GetFriday a complete OTV score, it’s safe to say that this Indian based company is unaffected by the Web 2.0 hype of the Valley.

I have a friend that has used the service and he was very happy with the results. It saved him in the neighborhood of 2 hours a day. To make it truly effective, however, I think you would have to give them rather “simple” tasks and be very clear what you want them to do. It would be similar to commissioning graphic or development work from someone on Craig’s list.

If I come across any reviews I’ll let you know.
