Harrisonburg, VA getting wired up!
By Dan | May 6, 2007
Business Week has a neat article on the upgrade to IPv6 in Harrisonburg, Virgina. IPv6 is the next “version” of the internet, and it will make way for more IP addresses as the internet expands at phenomenal rates. Over time, all areas will most likely upgrade to this protocol, but one small town in the Shenandoah Valley is leading the way.
The reason? According to Business Week: luring businesses and creating job. City officials and economic planners chose the IPv6 project to give them an edge in attracting companies, and in turn bringing more jobs and opportunity to the region.
James Madison University is reportedly playing a large role in the project. It will be interesting to watch this “mini tech boom” in the Southeast. The Raleigh-Durham triangle is already growing fast, and now the Shenandoah region might be catching on, especially with its location close to Washington DC.
