Ratchet-X: Desktop mashup technology from New York
By Dan | May 12, 2007
Techcrunch covered Ratchet-X, a desktop based XML platform that allows anyone to share data across different desktop applications. It’s similar to Yahoo! Pipes for the web, basically allowing multiple applications to interact and mix up the same data via XML.
Ratchet-X is the first product released by RatchetSoft, a privately held company based out of Manhasset, NY. Manhasset is located right on the northwest coast of Long Island, NY, so it’s definitely outside the valley!
Ratchet-X is an interesting concept to increase desktop application compatibility, and it will be interesting to watch how it progresses in the desktop software world. While some people point to the trend of online office apps, the majority of people still used desktop apps. Additionally, major companies such as Adobe have released software that actually brings the web to the desktop.
