IdeaConnection.com - The Idea Trading Ground
By Jason | May 17, 2007
Have you ever wondered what it would look like when web 2.0 met Idea creation? Seriously. How could that website make money?
Meet IdeaConnection.com. Don’t get me wrong. I love this idea. The basic business model is bringing problems, solutions, inventions, patents, etc together with people that can make them grow. There is an entrepreneur/investor section where you can buy ideas and seek solutions. There is a ‘provider’ section that features inventors/designers who solve problems and sell ideas.
How does this website make money? By charging to seek solutions and buy ideas. Solutions seeking cost $1,000. And in order to buy ideas, you have to become a member for $495.00 a year. This money is then recycled to pay the idea providers, minus the website’s cut.
In filling out the OutsideTheValley requirments, ideaConnection is based in Vancouver, Canada and the founder is a very accomplished web innovator. He is responsible for WorldBid.com and LawyersandSettlements.com.

In 1999 I wrote a business plan for one of my MBA courses. The plan was for a similar concept to this called myidea.com. About six months later, I read in the Wall Street Journal that ideas.com had launched, and it was almost the same thing as my business plan. I emailed the guys, but they had been working on it for a year already. It was then that I realized ideas aren’t unique, and execution is what matters in business.

Very well put Rob. And that execution oftentimes lies in the network, as in the people you know and who you have access to. So, in a sense, an idea trading ground is a really quite a logical conclusion especially on the web.
